Analysis of drag me to hell opening scene
In the first shot of the opening scene we see a very large castle looking building. it looks a lot like a hospital type place due to the very well kept gardens out the front, and lots of rooms. The colour of this shot is dark and dull, which accompanies the naturalistic colours of the building. This could also mean it is linked to a place for older people with illnesses as it is kept very dark. Or also a place for mental people to go and get help.
The next shot we see is of the back of a truck pulling up to the place along with a woman and a young child in the back of it. The boy is wrapped up in a blanket which already starts to give the viewer a sense that something is wrong with the boy.
It the goes to the woman running up to the entrance of the place which is secured by very large gates. By having such large gates can mean the place is very strict on the people that go in their and out.
The family then go on to speak to the woman that opened the door. They tell her how their son is hearing voices. The woman then asks what he has done. By which the family respond saying, he stole a necklace from a gypsy woman. This quote then makes the viewer think about the gypsy woman. The reason for this is because she must have some sort of powers in order to do this to the boy.
The shots then go on to close ups of the boy looking very distressed. It flicks between him and shots of what he is seeing showing us that he has been possessed by something.
we then see the woman trying to get rid of the curse, only for bad things to happen. The so called ghost beats them up and then throws the boy over the stairs on to the floor.
The shot then goes to a fiery hole where the boy gets grabbed and taken in to the hole. The hole then closes up as the boy disappears, by which the title of the film then comes up and then goes to a work place in a normal setting.
